Short Short Long - Soccer Drills

Short Short Long

diagram

Make groups of 3 for this drill. Each group needs one ball. 2 of the players start close together, and the other player is about 20-30 yards away. The two players close together start with the ball. One player passes to the other(1st short pass), and the other player passes back to the first player(2nd short pass), then that player kicks to the other player who is futher away(long pass). The player who kicked it follows there pass(usually a sprint), and those two players repeat the short short long passes. The drill can be run for as long as it takes for the players to get it right.

Passing and Moving to Open Space by

Make groups of four for this drill. Put out four cones making a square (10-15 yards apart each). 3 players take a position at one of the four cones. One of the four cones should be left free. The 4th player is in the sqaure.

The 3 players at each of the cones pass to each other on a straight line between the cones (no passing through the square). The key is that these 3 players will need to move into the free space at the empty cone to create better passing lanes. In other words, one of the 3 players will need to run to the open cone for a better pass to be made. You will see that all three players will need to move constantly to get to the open space.

The 4th player in the box is the defender. He/She tries to intercept the pass. One he/she does intercept, he/she moves to one of the cones and the person who made a bad pass or trap moves to the inside.
