Soccer Rules - Field

The soccer field should grass or turf and should have lines indicating the various sections of the field. Officially, the field should be rectangular, and range from 100 to 130 yards long by 50 to 100 yards wide, but other sized fields are probably fine if the game is not at a very high level of play.

Lining a soccer field

The field should be lined around it boundaries and split in two by a half line. At the center of the field, you should create a circle with a radius of about ten yards. Place goals at opposing sides of the field(on the short sides of the rectangular field.) Once you have placed the goals, measure six yards away from each goal post to the corner. Then measure six yards out parallel to the side lines. Connect these points to form the six yard box. Repeat this same process, except measure eighteen yards from the goal posts and out into the field. Once lined, this forms the penalty area/eighteen yard box. On the end line measure eleven from the center of the goals and mark this spot as the penalty spot. From the newly drawn penalty spots make a circle with a radius of ten yards, but only mark the part of the circle that is outside the penalty area. Lastly, make a one meter quarter circle in each of the four corners.

The Soccer Goal

The dimensions of a soccer goal are eight feet wide by eight yards wide. The goal should be secured to the ground for safety reasons. The crossbars should be white and have a width and height of no more than five inches. Both goals should be identical in size.

The Flag Posts

There should be a flag in each of the four corners. They should be at least five feet tall.
